Attention late-night commuters: Beginning this weekend, Brooklyn’s R train will face partial service suspensions that will affect riders heading home after hours.

Starting January 3rd, and again from January 10th to 13th, late-night R train service will be halted from 11:30 pm Friday through 5:30 am Monday in certain areas. The affected section will span between the 36th Street and 95th Street stations in Brooklyn.

This disruption is part of necessary structural maintenance, and the MTA is urging riders to plan accordingly. The suspension will impact approximately 9,000 passengers who rely on the train for their late-night travels.

During these closures, free shuttle buses will be available to cover the affected R line stops. In addition to the shuttle buses, the MTA has suggested alternative routes for commuters traveling to nearby stations.

For passengers headed to 45th Street and 53rd Street, it is advised to take the Coney Island-bound N train or the shuttle buses. Those looking to reach 59th Street can use the N train or take the free shuttle buses.

While these late-night disruptions may be inconvenient for those who depend on the R train, it’s a necessary step for long-term improvements. The maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the subway system, even as fare hikes are being implemented across the city.

Riders are encouraged to check MTA service updates and use the recommended alternatives during these service suspensions.
